My Exams

The Department of Examinations falls within the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR). The Department’s offices are located at Pinto Business Centre Qormi and currently host a team of twenty six officers. The Department also runs the Gozo Examinations Centre in Victoria.

The Department of Examinations administers the MATSEC examinations and other foreign bodies/University examinations. The Department is also responsible for the planning, organisation and implementation of Local Public Examinations within the Public Service.

The Department of Examinations liases with the Board of Local Public Examinations appointed by the incumbent Minister of Education, for the implementation of all Local Public Examinations. The Director within the Department of Examinations is the Registrar of Local Public Examinations.

Organisational Structure

Board of Local Examinations

The Board of Local Public Examinations is an independent body under the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR) ensuring the transparency and good governance of all Local Public Examinations.

The Board compromises a Chairperson, a Secretary and four Members appointed by the incumbent Minister with MEYR. The Director of the Department acts as the Registrar of the Board. The Registrar and Board Secretary have non-executive roles.

Director of Examinations

Ms Desiree Scicluna Bugeja currently holds the position of Director within the Department of Examinations, following a brief stint as Assistant Director in the same Department.  

In her previous role Ms Scicluna Bugeja was an Assistant Director within the Directorate for Learning & Assessment Programmes (DLAP) responsible for STEM Education.  Ms Scicluna Bugeja has a keen interest in educational assessment and evaluation and often lectures undergraduate  and qualified educators on matters related to quality and standards in educational practices. Further to the initial degree in teacher education, Ms Scicluna Bugeja attained a postgraduate diploma in Youth Studies,  and a Masters in Educational Evaluation & Assessment.  Ms Scicluna Bugeja is also a professionally trained Expert Peer Reviewer in Further and Higher Education.
