The Department of Examinations falls within the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR). The Department’s offices are located at Pinto Business Centre, Qormi. The Department also runs the Gozo Examinations Centre in Victoria. The Department hosts a team of twenty five officers.

The Department of Examinations administers the MATSEC examinations and other foreign bodies/University examinations. The Department is also responsible for the planning, organisation and implementation of Local Public Examinations within the Public Service.
